Raku Community
Firing
Raku
community firing occurs every second Saturday of the month at 4pm and
is a long standing favorite. Raku is a unique firing process that
involves removing the work from the kiln when it reaches red-hot
temperatures and then subjecting it to post firing reduction. There are
a variety of specialty glazes and techniques to experiment with. Along
with a variety of firing techniques other demonstrations include both
hand building and wheel throwing during this workshop. Cost for
firing is per piece and you may use CAV stock Raku glazes by Laguna.
Pricing is based on the length of the longest piece dimension.
For those who do not have there own vessel, CAV has a collection
for you to choose from at a very reasonable fee.
Clay
Clay Arts Vegas is proud to be a Laguna Clay distributor.
Laguna Clay must be purchased through Clay Arts Vegas for all work
created in the studio. Clays from outside sources are prohibited. Clay
prices range from about $10 - $29 for 25lbs of clay. Please note that
clays are designed for specific uses and firing temperatures, please
ask one of our staff for assistance in getting the most out of your
Laguna Clay.
Glazing
and Firings
For all currently enrolled students, staff selected Cone 10
glazes, and the cost of firing is included in your tuition. We also
carry the full line of Versa 5 glazes, and an assortment of other
Laguna low and mid range glazes, available in store.
We do our best to fire Cone 10 as well as lower temperature
firings on a regular basis,, Our goal is every ten days, this however
varies based on the amount of work. If you need work fired quicker you
can rent kiln time at CAV. All alternative and specialty firings will
have an additional fee.
Open
Studio
CAV offers Open Studio times for students who are enrolled
in classes. This gives students an opportunity to work on their
projects outside of class time and develop their skills. We also have
teaching staff available to assist you during our supervised open
studio times.
Monday through Saturday 9am-9pm
Sunday 11am-6pm
Open studio is not available during scheduled class times.
